You are looking for a free 3D model for your next project, but you can't find any good ones. Disappointed and frustrated, you decide to make the one yourself. You open some software and make some simple shapes on a blank canvas and start playing around with some textures. When you're finished, there is this beautiful 3D sculpture on your computer screen! But... If only it were that easy! There is unfortunately no such thing as a free lunch in today's crowded society; always expect to pay big bucks for even the simplest of services such as these. Especially without experience, it is hard to fathom the cost of reusing someone else's photos, 3D models or software. And with that said, what are your options? The obvious answer would be to buy commercial software or expensive model-making services. The problem with this approach is that you are always at the mercy of your employer; if he won't pay for it, you will have to make do with whatever freebies he allows. However, if you know where to look and how to use some simple techniques (which I will explain below), it is possible to get this or any other business level product for free! There is no need for referrals or special connections. The following are some of the more common problems you may encounter when attempting to create a 3D model using free products. The solutions are detailed below. If you meet any of them, keep reading because I will tell you how to solve them. Problem 1: The Texture is Too Low ResolutionThis is usually due to not knowing how to use the program correctly or not having an acceptable file size for the final product. It is easy enough to fix, though; just make changes in the program's settings and your texture resolution will be more than satisfactory for most purposes. When using free software, it's important that you first determine what encoder type the program supports on your system so that you can choose accordingly. For example, Windows Media Player can utilize a high-quality format called Alpha channel data. To find out which encoder type is installed on your system, right click on a blank area on your desktop and then the [Shortcut] menu [In Windows XP, [In Windows Vista or [In Windows 7. You will then see a pop-up window that will let you pick the operating system of your choice. Once you have determined what encoding type is installed on your system, you can determine if this particular product utilizes one of these encoder types by looking at the name in the 'Encoding Type' field in the program's description. If it doesn't, then that product is most likely not the correct one for the task. When you actually use the program to create your texture file, make sure that it is saved with your chosen format (JPEG, BMP or PNG). Problem 2: The Texture Distortions are too Numerous or Too SevereThis time around, you will need to use some outside help. Google's Picasa (a free program) can be used to resize and adjust your photos before they are imported into your 3D modeling software. This way you can limit any distortions or banding that may appear in the final renderings. cfa1e77820
